Conference Call: Moving Image is a series of open call video screenings curated by the Skowhegan Alliance across a range of venues in New York City. The Conference Call projects aim to create meaningful experiences for both artists and curators while showcasing the richness and range of practices among Skowhegan alumni to a broader audience.

A collaborative booth between Skowhegan, the Robert Blackburn Printshop, and the NYPL Picture Collection featuring materials from all three at the East Village Zine Fair hosted by Printed Matters / St Marks & 8-Ball Community. Includes a zine created by alumni Ally Caple (A '19) and Christian Amaya Garcia (A '23) which explores themes of transition through digital collages sourced from images in the Picture Collection and was printed at the Robert Blackburn Printshop. This zine serves as the culmination of a year of collaboration between the three organizations.

You Should Have Seen It is a zine project featuring stories and documentation of lost and destroyed artworks from Skowhegan alumni across 8 decades, the zine showcases 83 Skowhegan Alumni, curated by Rebecca Shippe (A '18) into four thematic books (“it was their fault”, “it was my fault”, “it wasn’t meant to be”, “it never was”), in addition to four commissioned essays. You Should Have Seen It aims to highlight the often ephemeral nature of art as well as the necessity of proper arts archiving by placing stories from a wide array of social contexts and media landscapes in conversation with one another.

Hard Return: 9 Experiments for this Moment is a conversation aimed at reflecting on the exhibition and celebrating the publication of the exhibition catalog. Curators Kate Gilmore (F '12), and Jonah Westerman will moderate the conversation with panelists Jesus Benavente, Daniel Bozhkov, Emily Coates, Kate Gilmore, Alix Pearlstein and Jonah Westerman.

1:30 PM 2:30 PMSkowheganPERFORMS 2023 is a day of new, site-specific performance art by Skowhegan alumni. Sharing a thematic prompt with The Socrates Annual, performances this year relate to “transformation” in many forms, with a special emphasis on changes in the environment and history. Performances may last the entire duration of the event and span the entire park, or last for only a moment in a secluded area.

The second exhibition of the five two-person series, CONFERENCE CALL | Waterways, features the work of Gwendolyn Kerber (A '79) and Rocío Olivares (A '18), and is curated by Alliance members Annette Cyr (A '76, '21) and Rebecca Shippee (A '18).

The third exhibition of the five two-person series, CONFERENCE CALL | Worldbuilding, features the work of Baxter Koziol (A '17) and Molly Springfield (A '06), and is curated by Alliance member Michael Scoggins (A '03).

The fourth exhibition of the five two-person series, CONFERENCE CALL , features the work of Pallavi Singh (she/her) (A '15) and Jing (Ellen) Xu (she/her) (A '16), and is curated by Alliance members Danny Greenberg (they/them) (A '18) and Eleanor Kipping (she/they) (A '18).

The fifth and final exhibition will feature the work of Hetty Baiz (she/her) (A '69) and Jordan Seaberry (he/his) (A '15), and is curated by Alliance member and Skowhegan Alumni & Archives Manager, Paige Laino (she/they). The show will have an opening reception on October 13 from 6:00–8:00PM and will take place at the Skowhegan Office in Chelsea, New York.

Organized by the Alumni Alliance and the Skowhegan Council, the Block Party, performances, and activations will be free of charge, and food and drinks will be available on a donation basis. The outdoor festival will celebrate Skowhegan’s expansive artistic community and will feature work from over 40 participating alumni artists.

The Skowhegan Alliance presents an exhibition of recent works Skowhegan Alumni made during the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic. Juried by Xinyi Cheng (A '14), Yui Kugimiya (A '10), and Jagdeep Raina (A '17), this is the first exhibition of its kind to be organized by Skowhegan.

Tarot is a game of pictures: a mysterious template that seeks to offer guidance through the murky, devastating ecstasy that is human existence. Start at zero, gather all of your tools and begin stumbling, unraveling and ascending your way through it. Who needs a map?

.WATCH is a website launched by the Skowhegan Alliance in Spring of 2016. The site functions as an online archive of videos by Skowhegan alumni. New works are accumulated through trimonthly solicitations which remove a large portion of the curatorial hand. For the first five solicitations, artists are invited based on the last number of their Skowhegan summer year.
